When you're not paying attention

Some things recently really understood:
the fit and sexy eighteen year old body is gone
drinking days are truly done
mom has been dead almost a year
the daughter is nearly an adult at long last
it doesn't matter if the house is spotlessly clean
recovery works
marriage is not at all as anticipated
writing again is wonderful after years of
not being able to be creative
but most importantly
I've never been happier.

(Poem prompt from Poetic Asides: write a poem about 'when you're not paying attention.')

  1. What a wonderful response to this prompt. I love the last line. I didn't expect that.
