Off to see the Wizard

Sauntering slowly through fields of flowers
observing the horizon gently stretching towards me
wondering at the pilgrimage that is
every unfolding, if only I will behold the moment.
Sometimes, those flowers are wicked witch
poppies and I must be alert for obstacles
and tripping hazards and subtle quicksands.
It's too easy to get caught in the somnolence
of life's mazes, though the vista is fantastic
if I can balance the walk and the wandering.

  1. You know, it's really a terrific take on a childhood memory that you would be tempted to say has been done to death--but this is fresh and very intelligent stuff, indeed.

  2. Diva, thanks so much for commenting at my blog. Your mention of the poppies from the Wizard of Oz was in the perfect place - had you led with it, the rest would not be as potent. Favorite phrase: "the somnolence of life's mazes," since it seems like, during waking hours, too many of us ARE walking in our sleep! Amy
