Belief interrupted

Punishment or
parental tyranny,
inconvenience or
lucky-miss-school,
the child perceives illness as
harmless
and annoying and
certainly not
terminal.
Peering through the veil for
the first time
seriously,
the weary adult,
afflicted by some
random but overwhelming
demon germ,
suddenly glimpses
the other side and a
beckoning Presence and
ponders
if this time will be
'it'.

  1. Not me! I don't do sick, and I know it ain "it"! Guess I'm still a kid when it comes to that!

  2. I do sick now, the way I did then. I wait for the house to quiet down, for everyone to leave and then I'm up looking for something to read, a movie to watch, someone to call or invite over. My body might say it's sick, but my mind refuses to accept it.
