The sweetness of new
A new baby today
a grand nephew so tiny
his grandmother, my sister, holding him close.
Her daughter, a brave woman to embark
on this maternal journey as her mother
did so long ago.
I remember her, my sister, as a screaming
insistent dark-haired baby, my fascination with
first my mother's belly and then the resulting
sibling no bigger than my dolls but a whole
lot more work!
I remember my niece, the first grandchild
as a bug-eyed newborn,
breath-taking young woman
and now mother of a miracle.
Welcome, little one.
